Adfam
Adfam is a national charity working with families affected by drugs and alcohol. They provide a range of publications and resources for families about substances and criminal justice and operate an online message board and database of local support groups that helps families hear about and talk to people who understand their situation. Adfam also runs direct support services at London prisons for families of prisoners with drug problems that need to talk about prison and drugs.
Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Al-Anon Family Groups UK & Eire and Alateen
A world-wide organisation that offers a self-help recovery program for families and friends of alcoholics whether or not the alcoholic seeks help or even recognises the existence of a drinking problem.

Drug and Alcohol Action Programme(DAAP)
The DAAP has established an innovative drug education programme to meet the needs of South Asian, African-Caribbean and Somali communities in Southall and South Acton, West London.
The DAAP builds upon the work initiated and developed by the Southall Community Drugs Education Project (1998 to 2002). The Southall project is recommended as good practice in the National Healthy School Standards (NHSS) support materials on drug education.

Federation of Drug & Alcohol Professionals (FDAP)
The Federation of Drug & Alcohol Professionals (FDAP) is the professional body of practitioners working with people with substance use problems. FDAP is open to everyone working in the field. FDAP provides advice, training and support to practitioners, as well as promoting and enforcing guidelines for ethical practice and providing a 'gold standard' accreditation scheme. FDAP also provides policy advice to NTA and other agencies on matters relating to workforce development and professional practice.

Medical Council on Alcoholism
The MCA (charity reg no 265242) helps doctors to alleviate and prevent alcohol-related harm. It does this through educating and assisting medical practitioners and others involved in maintaining health, holding medical-school symposia and essay competitions, making available a library of information, and publishing the Alcohol & Alcoholism journal (International Journal of The Medical Council on Alcoholism and Journal of the European Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism) and Alcoholism newsletter, as well as handbooks such as the MCA Medical Students Handbook: Alcohol and Health. It also enables doctors to get in touch with the British Doctors & Dentists Group for recovering alcohol and drug-dependent doctors, dentists and students.
National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse (NTA)
The National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse is the new special health authority, established by government in 2001, with a remit to increase the availability, capacity and effectiveness of treatment for substance misuse in England . The NTA is working with central government, Drug Action Teams, service providers and commissioners, users and carers, research, training and academic institutions to improve the commissioning of drug treatment services, promote evidence-based practice, and improve the performance of treatment providers and commissioners.
